Acupuncture (Shinkyu)
Treatment Policy
Acupuncture is primarily performed with an emphasis on Western (modern) medical perspectives. If improvement is difficult, principles of Eastern medicine are incorporated. The treatment aims not only to relieve pain but also to create a body less prone to recurrence of issues.
Treatment Features
Acupuncture is applied directly to trigger points, nerves compressed by deep muscles, and ligaments.
For deep muscles such as the psoas major and piriformis, needles of 3 to 3.5 sun (approximately 10 cm) are used.
If necessary, special techniques such as fire-needling or shijaku (bleeding acupuncture) may also be applied.
Conditions Treated
Sports injuries and musculoskeletal disorders (sprains, stiff shoulders, back pain, acute lower back pain, sciatica, frozen shoulder, knee pain, whiplash aftereffects, etc.).
Recommended for those who want to accelerate recovery from injuries.
Needles Used
Completely sterilized, disposable needles are used.
- Length: 1.6 sun (5 cm) to 3 sun (9 cm)
- Thickness: 0.10–0.30 mm (about the thickness of a hair)x
Cupping & Shijaku
Cupping Therapy
Cups are applied to the surface of the body to stimulate the skin and fascia, promoting blood and lymph circulation. By drawing out accumulated stagnant blood (oketsu) and waste products, it helps relieve stiffness and pain, and contributes to overall body improvement.
Notes
Marks from cupping usually disappear within about 5 days. For those with sensitive skin or poor circulation, they may last a little longer.
Shijaku (Bleeding Acupuncture) Therapy
- Skin Shijaku: Tiny incisions are made on areas with severe stiffness to release old blood.
- Jing Xue Shijaku: Blood is released from the fingertips or toes to improve the flow of Qi and blood.
Zen Shiatsu & Massage
Meridian Shiatsu (Zen Shiatsu)
This Japanese traditional manual therapy integrates theories from Eastern medicine and Western techniques (chiropractic, osteopathy, etc.). By correcting distortions in the meridians (excess or deficiency) and adjusting the flow of Qi, it helps restore the balance of muscles, skeleton, and internal organs.
As Needed
- Bone and pelvis adjustment
- Trigger point shiatsu
- Deep muscle approach
Specialties
Sports injuries, pre- and post-exercise adjustments, musculoskeletal disorders such as back pain and stiff shoulders. Also suitable for relaxation purposes.
Notes
In Eastern medicine, “Qi” is considered the fundamental energy of life. When the flow of Qi is blocked, physical or mental imbalances occur. By restoring the flow, the body’s natural healing ability is enhanced.
